Conduct Rites For Vern Thornton
Funeral services for Vern G. Thornton, Postville, were held Monday, Oct. 30 at 11:00 a.m. in the Schutte Funeral Home, Postville. Rev. Dick F. Harberts officiated.
Vern Gordon Thornton, son of Clarence and Martha (Entwistle) Thornton, was born October 9, 1908 in Clayton County. He died October 26 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.
He received his education in the rural schools in Allamakee County. On January 25, 1928 he married Blanche Rush and to this union three children were born. They farmed for many years and later they moved to Postville where Vern worked as an electrician and plumber at Nyberg's.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: William, George and Henry; and a sister, Margaret.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche; three sons: Leo, Lloyd and Curtis, all of Postville; seven grandchildren; two brothers: Ross of Postville, and Lloyd of West Union; and three sisters: Mrs. Ruth Hinman of Monona; Mrs. Lynn (Daisy) Livingood, Waukon and Mrs. Harlan (Frances) Harnack, Castalia.
