Graveside services for Merlyn Thiele, 70, were held Wednesday, September 11, 1991, 9:30 a.m., at the Postville Cemetery. The Rev. Julius Peterson officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of local arrangements.
Memorial services were held August 20, 1991, 10:00 a.m. at the Rice Mortuary in Brighton, CO.
Merlyn E. Thiele, son of Walter G. and Mabel L. Thiele, was born December 28, 1920, at Maynard, IA. He died Friday, August 16, 1991, in the Allison Nursing Home in Lakewood, CO.
He was baptized in the Methodist Church at Maynard, IA. Merlyn graduated from the Maynard Consolidated School in 1939. In May of 1940 he was married to Gertrude Tehel of Postville, IA. She died in December of 1983.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Master Gunner, First Glass. After his discharge he was employed by John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo. He has also been employed by the Kleen Maid Bread Company, in Waterloo, West Union and Manchester, IA. In 1960 he moved to Denver, CO, where he was employed by the Rainbo Bread Company and then the Al Weber Distributing Company where he worked for 15 years delivering milk. In 1975 he retired due to ill health.
He was married to Juanita Nyberg in October, 1984. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Brighton, CO, and a charter member of the BPOE Lodge 1586 in Brighton.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita, a son, James, Brighton, CO, a daughter, Margaret Thiele, a resident of Prairie View Care Center in Fayette, IA; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a brother, Curtis, of Oelwein, IA.
