Clarence R. Thornton
Services were held Monday, December 27, 1971 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran church for Clarence R. Thornton who died December 24 at the Good Samaritan Center, Waukon. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated. Grandsons served as casket bearers.
Clarence R. Thornton, son of Alonzo Thornton and Eliza Minnick was born in Allamakee County, June 5, 1875.
On December 27, 1893 he was united in marriage to Martha Entwisle and to this union were born six sons and four daughters. He farmed during his lifetime in Allamakee County.
Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons, William and George, and a daughter Margaret.
He is survived by four sons, Ross and Vern, Postville; Henry, Waukon; Lloyd, Hawkeye; three daughters, Ruth (Mrs. Harry Hinman), Cedar Rapids; Daisy (Mrs. Lynn Livingood), Waukon; Frances, (Mrs. Harlan Harnack), Castalia; together with 35 grandchildren, 88 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren.
Burial was in Smithfield Cemetery, Monona.
