Funeral services for Cloy F. Meyer were held Saturday, August 4, 2007, at 11 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa, with the Reverend Dave L. Lenth officiating. Special music was provided by Marian Schutte, organist, and Tim Lund, on the trumpet. The Casket Bearers were, Clay Kramer, Jared Lenth, Will Kramer, Chris Meyer, Tim Meyer, Greg Meyer, Gary Hager, Danny Kuennen, Harvey Zweibohmer, and the Honorary Casket Bearers were, Mick Meyer, John Svendsen, Julius Peterson, Lorenz Lenth, Jr., Lonny Hangartner, Jim Fishback, Merle Monroe, Gilmore Seegmiller, Jon Vine, Ed Mikota, Romandus "Sam" Gisleson, Davis Buddenberg. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery with Military Honors. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
Cloy Frederick Meyer was born August 9, 1931 on the family farm in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa, to Harold and Elsie (Blumhagen) Meyer. He died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, as the result of a farm accident on the farm near Castalia, where he had spent his entire life. He was 75 years old.
He was baptized September 6, 1931, by the Reverend G. A. Schmidt and confirmed March 25, 1945, by the Reverend C. J. Rebelein, both in the Zion Lutheran Church at Castalia.
Cloy attended the Castalia elementary school and graduated from Postville High School in 1949. He joined the military and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
On March 28, 1954 Cloy was married to Bonnie Jane Schroeder at the Frankville Presbyterian Church. This union was blessed with two daughters, Rebecca and Corinne.
Cloy and Bonnie milked registered Grade A Brown Swiss cattle for 40 years. Cloy was very proud to have bred and raised "Rapture El Regal," the top bull of the breed for a number of years.
He also operated a 300-sow farrowing set up for many years. He loved to raise POA (Pony of the Americas) ponies and drove a hitched team of four in many area parades. In 2001 their farm was designated as a Century Farm.
He was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia and had served on the Church Council. Other memberships included Farm Bureau, POA Club, Brown Swiss Association, and the Production Credit Board.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Bonnie, two daughters, Rebecca (Michael) Kramer, Waukon, IA and Corinne (Gary) Lenth, Castalia; three grandsons, Clay Kramer, Cedar Rapids, IA, Jared Lenth, Cedar Falls, IA, and Will Kramer, Waukon, IA; a sister, Marlys (Jerry) Hager and a brother, Duane Meyer, all of Castalia; two sisters-in-law, Joanne, Mrs. Art Meyer, Atlantic, IA and Jeanne (Mick) Meyer, Lansing, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Art Meyer.
Cloy had many interests besides his cattle and ponies. He had invented a device for which he held a patent, that emitted a signal when backing a fifth wheel travel trailer to prevent any damage to the vehicle. He and his wife spent several years in Arizona during the winter months. In the summer of 2005 they were the Grand Marshals of the Castalia Tractor Days.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office reported the accidental death of Cloy F. Meyer of Postville last Tuesday, July 31. Meyer, 75, died when the tractor he was driving rolled over, pinning him underneath. The accident happened at the Meyer farm a half-mile west of Castalia on Highway 52. According to the report, Meyer was loading round hay bales into a barn for some horses, and rolled the tractor down a creek bank around 4 p.m.
Meyer, who ran a dairy farm for 40 years, sold the milk cows over ten years ago and moved to Postville in semi-retirement.
Cloy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bonnie and two daughters, Rebecca (Michael) Kramer, Waukon, IA and Corinne (Gary) Lenth, Castalia; three grandsons, Clay Kramer, Cedar Rapids, IA, Jared Lenth, Cedar Falls, IA, and Will Kramer, Waukon, IA
