Betty Taft

Betty Joy Taft, age 81, of Centerville, Appanoose County, Iowa, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at her home at Continental at St. Joseph in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Stanley and Gertrude (Barber) Maxted June 29, 1926 in Beechles Suffox, England. She graduated from High School in England.

July 5, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to Donald Taft in Marion, OH. She worked for a time as an Insurance Clerk for an Insurance Company. Betty was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Waukon.

Betty is survived by her son, Michael David Taft and his wife, Janet, of University Park, WA; her daughter, Sally R. Christianson and her husband, Clint, of Unionville, MO; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Taft; her brother, Stanley Maxted; her sister, Dorothy May Maxted; a grandson; and one niece.

Betty's wishes were to be cremated and the family will have a burial of her ashes at a later date. The Schmidt Family Funeral Home is caring for the Taft family at this time and memorials can be made to Legacies Foundation at Mercy Hospital in Centerville and can be left at the funeral home.
