June E. Henning, 79, of Waukon died Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, July 9 at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon, with Pastor Judy Scheer officiating. Burial was held in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home, in Waukon, in charge of arrangements.
June Elaine Henning was born March 12, 1928 in Postville, the daughter of Paul and Martha (Kugel) Hanke. She was baptized at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon and confirmed at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville. June attended rural elementary school in Ludlow Township and graduated from Waukon High School in 1946 after taking the Normal Training curriculum. She taught school at Ludlow #2 and #4 in rural Waukon.
April 25, 1948 she married Calvin Henning at Salem United Church of Christ. They farmed together in Ludlow Township and for several years June worked in the laundry department at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon during the summer months. She and Calvin moved to Waukon in 1980, where she cleaned at the Waukon State Bank Drive-In location until 1991.
June was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and its ladies circles. She also kept records of the church history for many years. She enjoyed taking care of her vegetable garden, canning, needlework, quilting, reading, writing, word search puzzles and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Calvin of Waukon; her children, Lyle (Sharon) of Ossian, Brenda (Dave) Deering of Postville, Bonnie (Gary) Sickels of Waukon, and Gerry (Janet) of Wyanet, IL; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister Shirley (Duane) Duvel of Waukon. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Honorary casketbearers were Jill May, Katie Burrichter, Karisa Sickels, Dannette, Deanna, Dacia and Julie Henning, and Jodi Deering. Casketbearers were Travis Henning, Aaron, Aarik and Aandi Deering, Kendal Sickels, Joe May and Todd Burrichter.
