HENRY GEORGE PALAS
Funeral services for Henry George Palas, 79, of Waukon, were held Sunday, April 2, 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Waukon. Rev. Lynn Groe officiated. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery. Martin Bros. Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Henry G. Palas, son of Henry and Emma Buckman Palas was born February 13, 1910 in Luana, IA. He died March 30, 1989 at LaCrosse Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, WI.
He received his education in the Luana Consolidated Schools. A lifetime Allamakee county resident, he farmed and also worked as custodian at Luther College, Waukon High School and the Farm Bureau in Waukon.
January 1, 1930 he married Alice R. Svebakken at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church, Waterville.
He was a member of the Allamakee County Fair Board for many years; Rural "Elk School" director for McKee Township; a Farm Bureau Member; trustee, Sunday School teacher and choir member at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Waukon.
Preceding him in death were his brothers, Art, LaVerne, Roy, Herb, Floyd and Lloyd and a sister, Helen.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; children, Mrs. Leslie (Ada) Kerndt, Jr., Mrs. Ernest (Donnalee) Osland and Bernell and Ernest, all of Waukon; a brother, Glen Palas, Luana; 2 sisters, Mrs. Ella Meyer, Postville and Mrs. Margaret Engelhardt, Decorah.
Pallbearers: Mark Kerndt, Brian Kerndt, Greg Palas, Virgil Herman, Robert J. Stock, Gerald Palas.
