Funeral services for Sam Hofer, 56, Postville business man, who passed away last Friday at his home in this city after a long illness, were held Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church with the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig officiating, and interment was made in the cemetery at Elgin, Iowa.
Mr Hofer had been engaged in the restaurant business here for the past several years; coming here from Lansing with his family.
He was born on the old Hofer homestead, east of Elgin, Iowa, November 9,1882, the son of Nick and Eliza Hofer. He was one of a family of twelve children.
Mr. Hofer was married to Louise Pfarr at Canton, South Dakota, on January 3,1905, and to this union nine children were born, all of whom, together with the widow survive. The children are Lawrence, Clifford, William and Arthur of Postville, Richard of Luana, Melbert of Gunder, Mrs. Bertha Jennings and Dorothy Hofer of Quincy, Ill., and Eileen Hofer of Chicago, Illinois.
He is also survived by six sisters, Mrs. Pauline Dennler, Mrs. Rosina Dennler, Mrs. Lena Acklemeyer, Mrs. Marie Leonard, Mrs. Lydia Odegard, and Mrs. Anna Clark; two brothers, Fred and Ben Hofer, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.Clipping probably from the Postville Herald 1937
