Mass of Christian burial for Jerry C. Sires, 81, Hill City, South Dakota, will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hill City with the Rev. Jack Birdsall officiating. Burial will be in Hill City Cemetery. Visitation at Behrens Mortuary will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitation at St. Rose of Lima Church will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Sires died Friday, June 28, 1985, in Rapid City Regional Hospital, Rapid City, South Dakota.
He was born August 12, 1904, at New Albin, Iowa, to Thomas and Christina (Schwartzhoff) Sires. He grew up and attended schools at New Albin and worked at various jobs in the area.
Sires married Kay E. Bohrer August 5, 1924, at Atiko, Washington. They lived in Chicago, Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Kalamazoo, Michigan, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Venus, Florida, before moving to Hill City in 1971.
Sires was a sales representative for a food wholesale company.
He was preceded in death by his wife November 14, 1983. He had lived at Hillyo Manor in Hill City since June 1985.
Sires was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church and Hill City Senior Citizens.
Survivors include one son, Thomas of Hermosa, South Dakota; one daughter, Naomi Strabbing of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 17 grandchildren; 24 greatgrandchildren; three sisters, Virginia Bednarek of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; Eva Anderson of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; and Jane Duenn of Chicago Heights, Illinois.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
