Zaida Schroeder
Funeral services for Mrs. Harold Schroeder were held Monday, Nov. 26, 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. Mrs. Bernard Martins was organist. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
Zaida Emily Schroeder, daughter of James and Jennie (Landas) Whitley, was born September 6, 1909, in Fayette, IA. She died Thursday, Nov. 22, 1990 in the Good Samaritan Center, Postville.
She was graduated from Fayette High School in 1927 and attended Upper Iowa University. She was employed as a secretary by attorney W.J. Rogers at West Union, prior to her marriage.
On Sept. 6, 1933 she married Harold H. Schroeder at Fayette. The Rev. LeRoy Weihe officiated. They were the parents of 2 children, Janice and Charles. From 1938 to 1963 Zaida and Harold owned and operated Harold's Cash Grocery in Postville. They were active members of the business community.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Women of the ELCA, Monday Club and served as a member of the Good Samaritan Center Care Review Committee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, who died in 1985, 2 sisters, Clara Whitley, who died as an infant, and Ada Boone and one brother, Arthur Whitely.
Surviving are a son, The Rev. Charles Schroeder and his wife, Patricia, of Indianapolis, IN, a daughter, Janice and her husband, Leonard Rempert, of St. Charles, IL, 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a sister0in-law, Ora Windhurst of Postville, 2 brothers-in-law, Paul Schroeder and his wife, Lois of Golden Valley, MN and Arbie Schroeder and his wife, Lillian of Elgin, IA.
Casket Bearers: LaVern Stumme, Ray Suckow, Robert Burns, Darwin Fritz, Dr. Milton F. Schlein, Dr. Robert F. Schneider.
