ARTHUR G. WENDEL 1906-1978

Arthur G. Wendel, 71, of Lansing, died Thursday, Sept. 7 at the Waukon hospital.

He was born Sept. 27, 1906 in Allamakee County to John J. and Minnie (Bechtel) Wendel. He attended local schools and business college in LaCrosse, Wis. He married Ferne Steiber Sept. 2, 1930.

He is survived by his wife, a son William of Marion, a grandson Peter, and Wilma (Phipps) Miller, who made her home with the Wendels since a small child. Two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Teff and Mrs. Howard (Martha) Revoir of Lansing also survive.

Mr. Wendel was a distributor for Iowa Oil company for 23 years in the Lansing territory. He was treasurer of Allamakee County for 16 years before retiring in 1973.

He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church of Lansing and of the Evergreen Masonic Lodge No. 144.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 in the United Methodist Church with the Rev. John J. Hall officiating.

Burial was at Oak Hill cemetery.

Masonic memorial services were held at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Burke-Thornburg funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
