Emmet Paul Winkie
Funeral services were held December 10, 1991 for Emmet Paul Winkie who died December 7, 1991 at the Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Ia. Arrangements were by the Martin Funeral Home, Waukon, Iowa.
Emmet Paul Winkie was born September 25, 1909 on the Ludlow Township farm of his parents, William and Lydia Meier Winke. He was baptized and confirmed at the Zalmona Presbyterian Church by Rev. Ferdinand Zissler. As a youth he attended Ludlow #2 rural school near his home. On October 23, 1935, Emmet married Clara Soride at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Emmet and Clara farmed in the Ludlow area most of their married life, until moving to Waukon in 1980. After that Emmet did some painting and roofing work. Since March of 1989 Emmet has lived at the Northgate Care Center in Waukon where he died on Saturday, December 7 following a long illness.
Emmet was very active in church, township and area organizations. He was a former Zalmona Presbyterian Church Trustee and Deacon and also served on the ASC Board, Farm Bureau Board, Allamakee County Extension Board and was a 4-H leader.
Surviving are his wife, Clara; two sons, Dean and wife Gerry of Randalia, Iowa, and Dirk of Renton, Washington; a brother Walter and wife Helen of Waukon; and sisters Dorothy Ludeking and Clara Kugel both of Waukon. Also surviving are grandchildren Marvin, Tammie, Jeff, Colt, and Kyle Winkie and step-grandchildren David Collins, Linda Van Rotz, and Donald Drake.
Emmet was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Gerene Enid, and brothers George and Elmer Winkie
