Funeral services for Mrs. Marie (Lawson) Wickman* were held Monday, April 14, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Gary Catterson officiated. Special music was provided by soloist Amber Radloff. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Marie Evelyn (Lawson) Wickman*, the daughter of Frank and Ruby (Hammel) Lawson, was born December 23, 1919 in Post Township, near Postville, IA. She died Monday, April 7, 1997 at her home in Palm Harbor, Florida. She had reached the age of 77 years, 3 months and 14 days.
She was graduated from Postville High School in 1937 and completed the Normal Training Class. She taught in several of the rural schools, including the Grand Meadow Township school. During WW II, Marie moved to Milwaukee where she was employed by Allis Chalmers for over 35 years.
Marie was married to Harvey Wickman* in 1974. They had met while working at Allis Chalmers. They lived in Greenfield, WI for a few years and then moved to Highland Lakes, Palm Harbor, FL in 1981. Both Marie and Harvey enjoyed their golf games together. Harvey died at their home in 1984, following several years of heart disease.
Marie developed Parkinson's disease several years ago, but continues with her volunteer work. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Palm Harbor, where she served on the Board of Deacons, was a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association and a member of the Tuesday morning Bible Study group. She enjoyed sewing for missions, working on the Stewardship program, the clothing depot and the soup kitchen, as well as an office volunteer.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harvey, and a sister-in-law, Emma Lawson. Surviving are her stepchildren, Judy and her husband, Ev Punzel, of Hales Corners, WI; Harvey "Buzz" Wickman*, Jr. and wife, Ellie, of Shorewood, WI; and Betty and husband, Chris Parker, of Birmingham, England, 12 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great grandchildren and two brothers, Gordon Lawson and wife, Florence, and Leslie Lawson, all of Postville, Iowa.
Casket bearers were Roger Hammel, Richard Hammel, Charles Lawson, Clifford Lawson, Jr. Laura Radloff and Beverly Miner.
* - I do not know which is the correct spelling of this name. I have typed it exactly as the newspaper printed it. If you will note in her father's obituary it is spelled Wickman*.
