Mrs. Fred Lawson
Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Lawson were held Friday, Dec. 20, 1991 at 1:30 p.m. in the Schutte Funeral Home at Postville. The Rev. Verdon Swenson officiated. Shirley Brainard was the soloist, accompanied by Joann Martins, organist. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Ella Caroline Lawson, daughter of James W. and Caroline (Segrist) Harris, was born April 3, 1894 in Post Township, Allamakee County, near Postville. She passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 1991 in Northgate Care Center, Waukon. She had reached the age of 97 years, eight months and 14 days.
She attended the Lybrand School in Allamakee County. On April 3, 1912, she was united in marriage to Fred Lawson in the United Brethren Church at Bethel, rural Postville. To this union a son, Cloy, was born. The first years of their marriage Fred worked for various farmers in the area. Later they settled on the home farm in Post Township, where they lived for almost 50 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred, who died May 15, 1969; one great-great-granddaughter, Jennifer Lee; three brothers, Martin, Obert and J. Fred Harris; and three sisters, Ethel Fast, Florence Barnes, and Mae Evans.
Surviving are her son, Cloy Lawson, and his wife, Reva, of Waukon; seven grandchildren, Doris Ann Lyons, Roger Lawson, Clinton Lawson, Karen LaPage, Janeen Olson, David Lawson, Janice Holdiman; 20 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucille Johnson of Mabel, MN, and Dora Smith of Postville.
Ella was a former member of the United Brethren Church at Bethel and had served in various capacities including teaching Sunday School.
Casket bearers were Clifford Lawson, Keith Roffman, David Smith, Rodney Smith, Jerry Holdiman, and Danford Olson.
