Rites Are Held For Curtis Wendel

Funeral services were held for Curtis Wendel, 56, Monday morning, Aug. 30, at 10:30 o'clock at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran church with Rev. R. E. Langholz officiating.

The body lay in state at the church from 9:30 o'clock in the morning until the time of the services. Burial was in the Monona City cemetery.

Mr. Wendel died Friday, Aug. 27, at Memorial hospital in Prairie du Chien after being in ill health for some time.

As Curtis John, he was born the son of John and Minnie, nee Bechtel, Wendel on a farm near Lansing, Dec. 24, 1914. At an early age, he moved with his parents to Lansing where he attended the city schools.

He was engaged in farming until he entered the artificial breeding program in 1947.

He was married to Anita Bass of Clayton, Sept. 17, 1940.

He was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran church of Monona and was active in community affairs.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters.

Leaving to cherish his memory are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Sharon) DeSotel of Postville; a son, Keith of Garnavillo; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Teff and Mrs. Howard ReVoir of Lansing; two brothers, Earl of Postville and Arthur of Lansing; and four grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were: Alvin Lamker, Clarence Storla, Arthur Walz, Emil Aulerich, Raymond Mielke, Dugald Thompson, Emil Trede, and Lyman Ferguson.

Active casket bearers were: Harlan Kottman, Robert Melcher, Clarence Meyer, Elmer Wagner, Arno Duide, and Robert Kinsley.
