Mrs. Elizabeth Gilson, wife of the late John Preston Gilson, passed away at the home of her son, Johnnie Gilson in Monona, Iowa October 24, 1929 at the age of 63 years.

Her maiden name was Elizabeth Segrist and she was born in Allamakee county, Iowa October 15, 1866. She was united in marriage with J. Preston Gilson on Oct. 11, 1884. Her husband preceeded her in death , July 3, 1928. She has lived in this county all of her life except for a few years after her marriage when they lived at Elkport, Iowa. In the fall of 1919 they moved to Waukon and about two months ago she went to live with her son John at Monona.

She had suffered with heart trouble for several years. She was a loving mother and a good friend and neighbor as was attested by the hundreds that came to her funeral. She leaves seven children to mourn, Albert of Volney, Orrie of Forest Mills, Fred of Arlington, Johnnie and Mrs. Seward (Lucy) Swenson of Monona, Mrs. Art (Dott) Bender and Mrs. Gephard (Reva) Meskimen of Waukon. Six children preceeded her in death, in their infancy.

There are also four sisters and one brother left to mourn, and 31 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The funeral was held Sunday in the Presbyterian church at Waukon, Rev. Van Nice officiating, and burial was in the Oakland cemetery beside her husband.

Elizabeth was the daughter of Louis Segrist and Mary Ann (Joice) Segrist.
