Henry Wagner Funeral Held

Funeral services for Henry Wagner, 75, were held Monday afternoon, Feb. 22, at 2 o'clock at St. Paul Lutheran church with Rev. R. E. Langholz officiating.

The body lay in state at the church from 1 o'clock until the time of the services. Burial was in the St. Paul Lutheran cemetery

Mr. Wagner died Friday, Feb. 19, 1965, at the McGregor hospital. He became seriously ill while visiting relatives in Germany in 1963, and underwent surgery there in November of that year. He was very ill for a time but was able to return to his home in Monona in Feb. 1964. He never regained good health and sought medical help in hospitals in Iowa City, Dubuque, and McGregor.

He was born the son of John Peter and Margaret, nee Schindhelm, Wagner, May 13, 1889, at Kronach, Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and received his education in Germany.

He came to the United States in 1911, and worked as a farm hand in Osterdock and National until he acquired his own land near McGregor, where he farmed until he retired to Monona in 1947.

On Dec. 14, 1915, he was united in marriage to Malinda Fritz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Fritz. She died April 4, 1946. He was married to Wilma Stoecker, Aug. 17, 1947. Mr. Wagner served in positions of trust in his community. He was a board member of the Monona Farmers Commission company for many years, serving for some time as vice president of the Board. He also served on the board of the Luana Creamery and the council of St. Paul Lutheran church in Monona.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Malinda; and a half brother, Fred Schindhelm.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma; one son, Elmer; one daughter, Mrs. Milton (Margaret) Nelson, both of McGregor; one stepson, Carl Stoecker of Seattle, Wash., one stepdaughter, Mrs. Milton (Wilma) Franck; four sisters, Mrs. Fred (Elise) Christ of Sharon, Wis., Mrs. Eva Link, Mrs. Henrietta Weidman, and Mrs. Babette Dauman, and one brother, Peter, who all reside in Germany; four grandchildren and seven step grandchildren.

Music at the services was provided by Mrs. Roger Halvorson, soloist. Mrs. George Heins was the organist.

Pallbearers were: Enoch Anderson, Fred Hass, Tom Grady, Erwin Ruff, Herbert Horns, Arlo Johanningmeier, Robert Jacobson, and Edmund Ruff.
