Another Pioneer Gone.
At his home in French Creek township at 2:30 Wednesday morning, Louis Hirth, another pioneer of the county joined the silent majority. He had rarely known a sick day in his lifetime, his sons informing the writer that they had not even heard their father complain of illness until Wednesday last, 16th., when he seemed to be over- come by the heat, and failed from that time until death came, the end being peaceful and he cheerfully went to meet his God.
Louis Hirth was born in Germany in 1821. When a young man he came to America, locating first in Dubuque. In the early 50's he came to Allamakee county. He had the assistance in those days of a good wife who survives.
He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Jos. Sandry of this township, and Emma and Lydia at home, also three sons, J. L., Louis and William, all at home. He also leaves two brothers, Barney and Peter Hirth, and two sisters, Mrs. A. Sandry and Mrs. Mundt, formerly of Lansing. He was an uncle to Louis and Andrew Hirth. The funeral will be held today from the family home at 2 o'clock, interment in May's Prairie cemetery, Rev. Daacke officiating. Deceased was a member of the May's Prairie congregation.

mabloodhound@comcast.netIn my continuing search for family members, I found the date of birth listed for Louis Hirth is in error.
The Obit says 1821 as DOB, however his headstone (on Find a Grave) clearly has 1830. This also coincides with all the census that he is listed on.
The date of death of 1913 is correct. His wife Catherine should also be added to this list (1836-1888) as she is also on the same headstone.
