Obituary___Mrs. Jacob Hirth

Mrs. Jacob Hirth, nee Josephine Leppert, aged 75 years, 3 months and 28 days, died at her home at Churchtown on Tuesday morning, Jan 10, 1928, about 4:30 a.m., of heart failure. Mrs. Hirth looked after the fires getting ready for an early wash, retiring again to await daybreak. When her husband awoke he believed that she was sleeping and so went about the work in the house and later, calling her and getting no reponse, made his way to the room and found that she had fallen into a sleep from which none here awake. Mrs. Hirth had been troubled with her heart before but at the time was in rather good health. The deceased was born Sept. 12, 1852, at Galena, Ill. About five years later she came with her parents to French Creek Township, Allamakee county, Iowa, where they settled on a farm. She was married to Jacob Hirth March 21, 1876. To this union five children were born, one son preceding the mother in death..

Twelve years ago they moved to their little home at Church, Iowa, leaving their farm in care of their son Charles, Mrs. Hirth joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Mays Prairie on Sept. 25, 1878. The departed loved her Master, whom she served to the best of her ability. Her favorite chapter was 2 Tim. 4. Her faith did not shrink for a reward awaited her.

The departed leaves to mourn her aged husband and four children, Mrs. Geo. Wendel of Mason City, Iowa, Charles of Church, Iowa, Roy and Will of Medberry, N.D., and nine grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister , Mrs. J. Ebner of Church, Iowa, one half-sister, Miss Lena Leppert, and four half-brothers, John, Christian and Gustave, all of Berlin, N.D. and Fred of Oregon, and many other relatives and friends.

Interment was made Friday in the Mays Prairie cemetery. Rev. Arther C. Prust officiated at the services, assisted by Rev. Kurt Schalk.
