Lester Russell Dies Sunday At Waukon Hospital
Waukon resident Lester J. Russell, 80, died Sunday, March 3, at Veterans Memorial hospital.
Born March 4, 1904 in Allamakee county, he was the son of George and Adella Jones Russell. He and Hulda Kahl were married Feb. 23, 1933 in Berry, WI and they farmed in that area until retiring to Waukon two years ago. Russell had attended local Allamakee schools and was a member of St. John's Lutheran church in Berry.
He is survived by his wife; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Ashbacher of Decorah and Mrs. Jennie Sass of Waukon, and two brothers, Charles and Cecil of Waukon. He was predeceased by brothers George, Albert and Delbert, and sisters Mary and Enid.
The Rev. Jim Osborn conducted funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 5 at Martin's funeral home where visitation was after 3 p.m. Monday. Funeral services are also scheduled for Wednesday, March 6 at 1 p.m. at Ellestad-Gruber funeral home in Black Earth, WI, with the Rev. William Christiansen officiating. Burial is to be in St. John's cemetery in Berry.
Pallbearers are Mert Phipps, Don Russell, Albert Ashbacher, Gene Carlin, Ray Riordan, Robert Zeigler, Floyd Ashbacher, Jim Zezulka, Earl Zezulka, Tom Russell, Charles Turk and Lloyd Brockmann. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Morey, John Heintz and Merlin Brockmann.
