Death of Pioneer Resident

Mrs. Dan Haas, 88, one of the few pioneer settlers of Allamakee County, died suddenly at her home iin Waukon early Saturday morning, death being caused by a cerebral hemorrage.
As Hannah Troendle, she was born on a farm near Lycurgus July 8, 1862, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benedict Troendle, early resident of that vicinity. On Sept. 23, 1885, she was married at St. Mary's Church, Lycurgus, to Dan Haas of that vicinity and they established their home on a farm near Lycurgus Church, where they resided until 1925 when she moved to Waukon.
She is surived by an only daughter, Mrs. Edward Duggan, and two sons, Edward and William, all of this city, and all of whom looked after the welfare and care of their mother in her declining years. She is also survived by an only sister, Mrs. Mary Miller, past 90 years of age also of Waukon. There are six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband who died March 24, 1925, and her youngest son, Theodore, whose death occurred July 30, 1936.
The remains reposed at the Edw. Haas home until Monday morning when funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Church where a Requiem Mass was celebrated by the pastor, the Rev. Ernest J. McDonald. Burial was made in the family lot in St. Mary's Cemetery at Lycurgus with prayers offered by the Rev. Francis Bradshaw. Bakke and Hanson funeral directors were in charge.
Attending the funeral from out of town were the following relatives: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rice, Cedar Falls, Ronald Haas, Marshalltown, Mrs. Tom Teeling, Mrs. William Bakkes, and Miss Julia Haas, all of Dubuque, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McCarthy and son and Mrs. Bertha Krier, all of Caledonia, the Rev. William Goetzinger, and Miss Susan Haas both of Dunkerton and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rausch of Fort Atkinson, Ia.
Casket bearers were Vincent Haas, Kermit Sunderman, Paul Ryan, Charles McCarthy, Lawrence Bresnahan and George Troendle.
