Ruth Ferris Padden 1893-1990
Funeral services for Ruth Padden were held Thursday, Oct. 18, 1990 at 10:30 a.m. in the Schutte Funeral home at Postville, IA. The Rev. Terrance P. Hennesy officiated. Special music was provided by Marian Schutte, organist and soloists, Paul Schutte and Louis Knockel. Burial was in the Frankville Cemetery, rural Postville.
Ruth Augusta Padden, daughter of Kendrick Vail and Augusta (Miller) Ferris, was born March 3, 1893, at Waukon, Iowa. She died Monday, Oct. 15, 1990, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, IA.
She received her education at Spring Grove, MN; Church, IA and was graduated from the Lansing High School on May 29, 1912 and received a teaching certificate from the Allamakee County Institute. From 1912 to 1922 she taught in the rural schools, including Church, Volney, Rossville, Frankville, and the Myron School.
On Oct. 21, 1914 she married Oscar Francis Padden at the home of her parents at Church, IA. They farmed in the Allamakee and Winneshiek areas for several years. In 1945 they moved to Postville.
During her years in Postville, Ruth had been employed by the Postville Locker, Groth Turkey Produce and the Postville Egg plant.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Francis, her stepson, Oscar Padden, 3 brothers, Ray, Floyd and Earl Ferris, and 2 sisters, Ethel Ferris and Harriet Hager.
She had been an active member of the Rebekah Lodge, serving as District Deputy for District No. 3 in 1935. She had also served as Nobel Grand of the organization. She was also a member of the Joan of Arc Club at Burr Oak, IA.
Casket bearers: John Padden, Joseph Reilly, Ted Bedward, Robert Reilly, Jim Jelinek, and Jim Slaughter.
Honorary Casket Bearers: Rudolph Hartwig, Leo Foels, William Livingood, and A. Burr Cook.
