M.G. Wood

Following a third stroke of paralysis suffered Friday of last week, M.G. Wood of this city, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. W. Smith, of Frankville, on the Wednesday following. Mr Wood has been in extremely poor health ever since his first attack, the last few months being especially trying ones, so that death came as a sweet release to his worn body and mind.

Martin G. Wood was born in Sodus, Wayne county, N.Y., June 5, 1835. Twenty-two years later he was married to Miss Elizabeth Stall. To them were born three daughters, two of whom died in infancy, the third, Mrs. D.W.Smith, surviving him. In 1862, Mr. Wood enlisted in Co.D, 160th N.Y. Infantry, his army service consisting principally in skirmishing in the southwest, Louisiana and Texas. He was discharged in 1863 and the same year he came to Allamakee county where he has since made his home with the exception of a few years spent in Mississippi.

Beside the wife and daughter, Mr. Wood leaves to mourn his loss, two sisters, Mrs. E.A. Collins of Hubbell, Neb., and Mrs. C. L. Miller of Pipestone, Minn., and a brother , B.M. Wood, residing in Nebraska.

For over fifty years, Mr. Wood was a member of the Methodist church and on Friday, his pastor, Rev. Robbins, conducted funeral services at his residence in South Waukon, his body being layed to rest in Oakland.
