Funeral for John Brooks Held Saturday
The death of John M. Brooks, 80, occurred last Tuesday at his home in this city, where he and his wife resided the past year. He suffered from an illness of over a year's duration.
He was born on May 3, 1867 to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Brooks in Clayton county. Allamakee had been his home since he was 17 yrs. of age.
On August 26, 1893, his marriage to Carrie L. Stahl took place in Waukon. She survives him with their two sons, Allen of Luana, and Kenneth of Waukon, and one daughter, Mrs. Jessie Ralston of Junction City, Oregon. Gaddis Brooks of Postville, is a brother and Mrs. George Stahl, Waukon a sister. There are 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two sons and a daughter preceded him in death.
Mr. Brooks was a member of the United Brethren church. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the local Methodist church, conducted by Rev. W.H. Mitchell. Burial took place in Evergreen cemetery in Jefferson township. The pall bearers were Frank, William and Milton Werhan, Charles Brooks, Richard and Cecil Stahl.
To all who gave us help and sympathy in the illness and death of our husband and father, to those who sent flowers, to Rev. Mitchell for his message of comfort, to Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Probert, and all who helped in anyway, we extend our sincere thanks. __Mrs John Brooks, the children and grandchildren.
