Donald L. Shaffer, 86, of Waukon, died Sat., Jan. 26, 2002 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a brief illness. Memorial services will be held Sat. , Feb. 1 16th at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn Groe officiating. His body was donated to the University of Iowa Medical Department.

Donald L. Shaffer was born on Sept. 11, 1915 in Fayette, the son of Lester and Emma (Drewes) Shaffer. On June 15, 1943 he married Lenora Emma Heinmiller at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed together near Wadena and West Union until illness forced his retirement from farming. They then operated businesses in West Union, Anaheim, CA, Postville and Lansing before retiring to Waukon in 1984. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon and enjoyed card playing and good conversation.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lenora; and two sisters, Marjorie Scalf and Catherine in infancy.

Survivors include a son Douglas of Lansing; two granddaughters, Trina Springsteen and Kristi Shaffer; three great-grandchildren, Katlyn Rickard and Benjamin and Rebecca Spningsteen; a brother, Robert (Elaine) Shaffer of Dodgeville, WI; and a sister, Gladys Maurer of Fayette
