Funeral services for Mrs. Virgil Welper, who was fatally in an auto accident Friday, were held Saturday afternoon at Martin's Funeral Home in Waukon. The Rev. P.H. Franzmeier, New Albin, officiated and burial was in Oakland cemetery.
Irene Welper was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Buege. She was born on Aug. 16, 1905. She married Virgil Welper on Jan. 7, 1930, and with the exception of four years, lived in Allamakee County.
Mr. Welper died several years ago. Since then the family has lived with Mrs. Buege. Other survivors are four sons, Everette, Leslie and Virgil at home, and Delbert with the Army, stationed in Massachusetts.

CRASH KILLS IOWA WOMAN
Mrs. Virgil Welper, 47, was killed at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in a head-on collision on a county trunk road 10 miles north of Lycurgus, Iowa.The car in which the New Albin woman was riding was driven by her son Virgil, who is in a Waukon hospital with injuries he received in the crash. Another son, Everett, was not seriously injured.
In the other car were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Prestemon and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Kosbau, all of Allamakee County, and all are in the Waukon hospital. Prestemon was listed as the driver.
The Welpers were traveling north, the other car south when the collision occurred.

Date: 1/5/2007New Albin Woman Killed, 5 Hurt in 2-Car Collision
Waukon – Mrs. Virgil Welper, 48, widow of near New Albin, was instantly killed about 12:30 p.m. Thursday in a two-car crash on a county trunk road 10 miles north of Lycurgus.
Five other Allamakee county residents were injured, none critically. All were taken to Memorial Hospital, Waukon.
They are; Virgil Welper, 22, son of Mrs. Welper; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Prestamon and Mrs. and Mrs. Kosbau, all of Jefferson township, south of Waukon. Everett Welper, another son, escaped uninjured.
The Welpers, with Virgil driving the car, were headed north on the gravel road. The Prestamons and Kosbau, all passengers in the same car, were going south.
Prestanon suffered a slight shoulder injury and Mrs. Prestamon suffered a fractured shoulder.
Mrs. Welper is also survived by two other sons, one of whom is in the service.
