Marlene Mortell

Marlene Mortell (nee Leas), 71, of Bloomingdale, IL passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 at Tempe St. Luke's Hospital in Tempe, AZ. Marlene and her husband, Bill, had been on vacation visiting many places of interest in Arizona. Visitation was held Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels near her home in Bloomingdale. A Memorial Service will be held at Glen Ellyn Presbyterian Church, Glen Ellyn, IL Sunday, October 29, 2006 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Church Memorial Garden.

Marlene was born April 1, 1935 in Waukon to Harold Leslie Leas and Zelda (Deal) Leas. She grew up on her uncle's farm, Eugene Deal, near Rossville. She attended all 12 grades of school in Waukon and graduated in 1952.

After high school graduation, she attended and completed courses at an airline school in Omaha, NE and one year of college at Luther College in Decorah. She moved to the Chicago area. Marlene's career was spent in the travel and airline industry. She retired from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines after 39 years of service in their reservation and freight departments. She especially enjoyed working with animals to get them to their destinations around the world.

Her interests were travel related, and she loved to plan trips, and she did so in great detail. She traveled far and wide to many places and enjoyed stateside adventures also. She liked skiing and golf and loved her cats. She enjoyed spectator sports, especially the Chicago Bears and Bulls and Iowa Hawkeyes.

Marlene is survived by her husband of 40 years, William (Bill) Mortell of Bloomingdale, IL; a stepson, William (Billy)/(Marcia) Mortell; two grandchildren, William (Billy) and Caytlin of Johnsonburg, PA; one sister, Karen (Vince) Kavlick of Green Valley, AZ, and many nieces and nephews in the Chicago area. She was preceded in death by her parents.
