Cletus Huffman
Cletus C. Huffman, 85, of Oelwein died Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, with Rev. Frederick C. Fangmann officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, where there will be a 6:30 p.m. Parish Scripture Service and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
Cletus Cleo Huffman was born December 1, 1920 in Waukon, the son of John H. and Mabel (Dougherty) Huffman. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1938, and after graduation ran the Shell Station in Rossville. Later, he was employed at the post office in Waukon and later owned and operated two taverns in Waukon and later a tavern in Sumner. He was also in partnership with his two brothers in the tavern business in New Hampton. Clete then went to work for City Laundering Co. in Oelwein as a route salesman for 25 years. After retirement, he worked part-time at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home.
Cletus married Coila Glynn February 13, 1945 at Cherry Mound. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, a 3rd and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Oelwein Council #1168. He had been a resident of Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein since June of 2004. A Memorial Fund has been established in Cletus' name.
Surviving Cletus are his wife Coila of Oelwein; his son Tony of Altoona; four grandchildren, Nicole Watters, Christopher Huffman, Abby Huffman and Ethan Huffman; five great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Madison, Ryan, Janelle and Connor; three sisters, Lucille Hanson of Postville, Maxine (James) Campbell of Waukon, and Alice (John) Eschweiler of New Hampton; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Glynn of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Laurie Ann Huffman; his son Thomas Paul Huffman; and four brothers, Creighton, LeRoy, Ray and Curtis.
