Violet McNally 1918-2002

Funeral services for Mrs. Leo McNally were held Monday, August 12, 2002, at 10:30 A. M. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend James Allison officiated. Casket Bearers were: Heather McNally, Christine McNally Woods, Julie Strickler, Josh Woods, Cale Woods, Danielle McNally, Samantha McNally, Bryan McNally, Abigail Ball. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Violet Ida Ella (Heins) McNally, the oldest daughter of Louis and Roma (Bittner) Heins, was born December 14, 1918, at Guttenberg, Iowa. She passed away Thursday, August 8, 2002, in Veterans Memorial Hospital at Waukon, Iowa. She had reached the age of 83 years, seven months and 24 days. She was baptized June 8, 1919 in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville by the Reverend E. Schmidt and confirmed there on March 25, 1934 by the Reverend R. B. Garten. Violet received her education in the rural Clayton County Schools and was graduated from the Luana High School in 1937. Violet was married to Leo F. McNally on December 11, 1937 at Albert Lee, Minnesota by the Reverend Purdette L. Mai. They were blessed with five children. They farmed until 1971 when they moved to Postville. Violet was employed at Iowa Turkey Products for 16 years. They had recently moved to an apartment in Monona. She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Roland, who died in 1981, one brother, Cyril Heins, two sisters, Birdena Behrend and Ida Mae Behrend, a daughter-in-law, Cecelia McNally and two brothers-in-law, Elmo Behrend and Harold Andregg. Surviving is her husband, Leo, of Monona, four children, Norma and husband, Joe Ball, of Mt. Horeb, WI, Thomas McNally and wife, Nancy of Bolivar, PA, Theodore McNally and wife, Cheryl of Monona, IA, and Leo Randy McNally and wife, Janet of Hinckley, MN, and a daughter-in-law, Beverly J. McNally of Postville. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey McNally, Julie Strickler, Justin McNally, Russell McNally, Heather McNally, Christine McNally Woods, Douglas McNally, James Ball, Jared Ball, Jason Ball, Patrick McNally, Trevor McNally; six great grandchildren, Joshua and Cale Woods, Danielle and Samantha McNally, Abigail Rae Ball, and Bryan McNally; seven sisters, Roma (Freddie) Lahrs of Clayton Center, IA, LaVonne (Glen) Mueller of Elkader, IA, Shirley Mae (William) Sutton and Rose Marie (Richard) Duwe, all of Garnavillo, IA, Hazel Anderegg, Betty Lou (Henry) Geick, Gerene (William) Morarend, all of Guttenberg, IA, many nieces and nephews and brother-in-law, Francis Behrend of Guttenberg. Violet was a life time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. She was an excellent cook and looked forward to having her family around her to share the cookies, homemade bread and other baked goods from her kitchen. She also made wedding cakes. Violet was a talented seamstress as well. She crocheted and tatted and made beautiful quilts. She had a large garden and enjoyed taking care of it. Violet and Leo enjoyed traveling in the west to see the wonders of nature and liked to go fishing in Canada.
