Donald V. Halvorson, 69, of Waterville, IA, died Monday, October 2, 2006 at his home in Waterville. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 5 at 11 a.m. at Waterville Lutheran Church in Waterville, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Donald Victory Halvorson was born July 18, 1937 in Waukon, IA, the son of Victory Leiran and Ruby Erna (Jenson) Halvorson. He was baptized and confirmed at Waterville Lutheran Church. After graduating from Waterville High School in 1955, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1963 as an Airplane Mechanic.
November 26, 1956 he married Launee Wood in Malad, Idaho. After the service they moved back to Waterville, where he farmed with his parents in Paint Creek Township. Donald drove school bus, hauled milk for the Waterville Creamery and was a manager for Bitumastore in Marquette, IA. In 1989 he drove semi with his son Dave until 1994, and then for Moore Transportation in Prairie du Chien, WI, until his retirement in 2000. He was also a certified lock smith. Donald was a full-time dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.
Donald was a lifetime member of Waterville Lutheran Church. He was a volunteer fireman and EMT for the Waterville Fire Department. He was also a member of Harpers Ferry VFW, Gods Country Touring Club and Snow Blazers Club. Donald enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and gardening. He also enjoyed woodworking and welding.
Survivors include his wife, Launee of Waterville, IA; his children, Wesley (Sylvia) of Waterville, IA, Debbie (Jim) Mink of Prairie du Chien, WI, David of La Crosse, WI, Gary (Katie Russell) of Monona, IA and Casey of McGregor, IA; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roger (Connie) of Marquette, IA and William (Linda) of Waterville. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Lynn Allen, and a granddaughter, Kappriane Halvorson.
Honorary casketbearers are Gene Thias, Ray Mitchell, Rudy Hesla and Bart Hamm. Casketbearers are Gene Leiran, Jeff Mitchell, Brad Hamm, Bob Schlitter, Bruce Snitker and Dave Monserud.
