Mary Jo Anderson

Mary Jo Anderson, 60, Cedar Rapids, died at St. Lukes's Hospital, Tuesday, August 8, 2006, due to complications of back surgery. Memorial services were held Wednesday, August 16, at St. Paul United Methodist Church by the Revs. Harlan Gillespie, Carol Sundberg, and Lloyd Brockmeyer. Inurnment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery, New Albin. Turner East Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her father with whom she lived, Dwight Anderson; a brother Dean (Betty) Anderson of Lewistown, Mont.; a sister, Jane Hansen of Talaquah, Okla.; an aunt, Eleanor (Rev. Earl) Butz of Rapid City, S.D.; nephews, Scott, Eirik (Bonnie), Christian (Chere'), Mark Anderson, Doug (Sherri) Hansen; nieces, Heather (Sean) Lyell and Laura Anderson; and many cousins.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her mother.

Mary Jo was born September 16, 1945, in Mason City to Dwight and Jessie Anderson. She lived with her parents her whole life. Mary Jo attended the University of Dubuque and the University of Iowa in the education program for special needs children. She was an avid reader. Mary Jo was very dedicated to the well-being of her father and did everything she could to make him happy, including preparing healthy meals for him. Mary Jo served as Secretary in the Deer Ridge Assembly where she lived and took special pride in sending all occasion cards to the residents of the group. She was a Communion Steward for St. Paul's where she was a member and took communion to the homebound and residents of care facilities.
