Floyd J. Pottratz, 85, of New Albin, died Wed. morning, Oct. 31, 2001, at Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, WI.
Floyd lived in New Albin most of his life and attended New Albin public schools. He married Rita O'Donnell Feb. 28, 1933. They made their home in New Albin. Floyd, as an enterprising young man, managed the New Albin creamery and locker plant until he enlisted in the Navy. Floyd was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater.
After the war, Floyd and his brother became active in the dairy industry. Floyd was owner/operator of a successful dairy farm for over 25 years, until he retired in 1972.
Upon retirement, Floyd moved into New Albin, where he was active with Tri-State Feeds, the county Board of Supervisors, and the local Board of Education. He was involved with Civil Defense as director and served as a member of the VFW, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and St. Joseph's Church.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, August and Alvina (Klinski) Pottratz; his wife, Rita, who died Oct. 21, 1999; four sisters, Lillian, Serena, Verona, and Mabel; an infant brother, Lloyd; and a grandson.
Floyd is survived by three daughters: Angela Lager, North Mankato, MN, Christy Lampert, Brownsville, MN, and Rebecca Andresen, Eldridge; four sons: Floyd Thomas of Indianapolis, IN, Lloyd of Davenport, Robert of Melrose, MN, and Dennis of Decorah; 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sylvia Hegy, Lansing; a brother, Milton, King City, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sat., Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, New Albin. Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing was charge of arrangements.-Waukon Standard, 11/8/2001
