Alfred "Hap" Keatley

Alfred “Hap” G. Keatley, 64, of Lansing, Iowa, died Monday, May 15, 2006, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 18, at noon at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Inurnment with graveside military rites will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before services on Thursday at the funeral home.

Alfred Gerhart Keatley was born in Waukon March 16, 1942, the son of Robert and Mabel (Smedsrud) Keatley. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon. Hap attended Waukon Elementary School and Waukon High School. During and after high school he worked for Handy’s Phillips 66 Station in Waukon.

He married Irene Saxton and they were later divorced. From 1962 until 1966 he served in the US Navy. Hap lived in Silver Springs, Md., where he worked in the Washington, D.C. area as a meat cutter and a union shop steward for Giant Foods. Hap retired in 2003 before moving to Lansing.

Hap enjoyed the beautiful summers in Lansing and spending the winters in Alamo, Texas, where they have two summers. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and listening to music. Hap liked to travel by car throughout the U.S. and also took a trip to Germany.

Survivors include a brother, Mel (Dodie) Keatley of Lansing; a sister-in-law, Karen Keatley of Waukon; three nephews; three nieces; three great-nephews; and five great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fred; a sister, Patricia Murphy; and a nephew, Gregory Keatley.
