Jeanette H. Brooks, 92, of Lewistown, Mont., died of natural causes Tuesday afternoon, February 21, 2006, at the Central Montana Skilled Nursing Center.

She was born January 17, 1914, in Lansing, Iowa, the daughter of Adam A. and Mary (Larson) Cavers. She received her schooling in Iowa, graduating from high school there. She continued to live and work in Lansing until her marriage on November 3, 1934, to Charles H. Brooks in Waukon.

Jeanette and Charles farmed in the Waukon area, and she worked in the button factory until the family moved to Montana in the early 1960's. They made their home in Lewistown, and she worked as a cook at St. Joseph’s Hospital until the mid-1970's, when she began working as a cook at Valle Vista Manor. She retired in the mid-1970's, continuing to make her home in Lewistown. Following Charles’ death in 1978, she continued to live at home until entering the Central Montana Skilled Nursing Center in 2003.

Jeanette was an avid outdoors person, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, crocheting, and at the age of 90 began enjoying art by painting for family and friends.

She is survived by one son, Roger of Lewistown; five daughters, Mary Lou Troendle of Phoenix, Ariz., Doris Flesch and Ruth Reppe, both of Lewistown, Barbara Koch of Whitefish, Mont., and Helen Dehli of Harpers Ferry; one adopted daughter, Sherry Goodell of Whitefish, Mont; one brother-in-law, Harold Evans of Waukon; 26 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, two grandsons, and one great-grandson.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 27, at the Cloyd Chapel, with interment in the Central Montana Memorial Gardens. They Cloyd Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Friends are asked to make memorials to the Central Montana Skilled Nursing Center Activities Fund or the charity of the choice. Memorials may be left with the Cloyd Funeral Home.
