Effie Marlow

Effie M. Marlow, 81 years old, of Oelwein, Iowa, died on Monday, February 13, 2006, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following a short illness. She was born on August 18, 1924, in Elmore, Minnesota, the daughter of Harold George and Sina (Miller) Beenken. On October 12, 1952, she and Lester Norman Marlow were married in Burr Oak, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2004. Mrs. Marlow cared for her husband and 6 children all of her life. She also was a nurses aid for about 10 years at the Postville Community Hospital in Postville, Iowa. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Postville.

Mrs. Marlow is survived by 5 sons, Clifford (Connie) Marlow and Ron (Becky) Marlow, both of Pella, Iowa, Gary (Jill) Marlow of Vinton, Iowa, Steve (Amy) Marlow of Independence, Iowa, and Jerry (Deb) Marlow of Oelwein, Iowa, and 1 daughter, Barbara (Rick) Melhus of Knoxville, Tennessee. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and 1 brother, Eldon (Jean) Beenken of Blue Earth, Minnesota.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 4 brothers, Vernon Beenken, Harvey Beenken, Harold Beenken, and Kenneth Beenken.

Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2006, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor Mark Carr officiating. Honorary Casket Bearers were Matt Jens and Stephan Johns. Casket Bearers were Scott Marlow, Brad Marlow, Garrett Marlow, Derick Melhus, Josh Visser, and Mike Redman. Burial was in Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak, Iowa.

White Funeral Home of Independence was in charge of arrangements.
