Joan Takin
(Ruth) Joan Takin, age 73, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Saturday, February 11, 2006, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo. Services were held Wednesday, February 15, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church.
Joan was born in Waukon the daughter of Daniel and Kathryn Waters Regan. She attended St. Patrick’s School in Waukon until the family moved to Waterloo where she graduated from Our Lady of Victory High School.
In 1953 she married Lawrence “Dick” Takin. She and her husband co-owned and operated Takin Brothers Freight Line for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey of Waterloo and Rick of Jacksonville, Fla.; three daughters, Sandra (Ron) McKay of Lakeville, Minn., Jacqueline (Scott) Mauer of Waterloo, and Jane (Nate) Fuller of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Stacy (Scott) Brotemarkle, Jeremy (Jamie) Mauer, Rob (Tara) Mauer, and Monica Mauer; a great-grandson, Lake Mauer; a brother, Donald Regan; two sisters, Lorraine Lyons and Charlotte (Reg) O’Maley, both of Waterloo; and a sister-in-law, Jacquelyn Regan of Waukon.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dick; a sister and brother-in-law, Lavon and Leo Cunningham; a brother Daniel; and a sister-in-law Susan.
Lectors and Eucharistic ministers were James Lyons and Joseph Cunningham. Casketbearers were John Lyons, Timonthy Regan, Jeffrey Takin, Stephen Regan, Thomas O’Maley, and Daniel Cunningham.
