Nierling, John Jacob, Jamestown, N. Dak., Banker; born in Lansing, Iowa, July 23, 1856; son of Anton and Mary (Buck) Nierling; educated in schools of Lansing and Dubuque, Iowa; married at Waukon, Iowa on Jan. 1, 1880, Lillian Spence (died Jan. 14, 1896); married second, May 1900, to Amelia Bench (died Jan 23, 1905); married third, Sept 15, 1909 to Emma Ellsworth; six children. President Citizens' National Bank of Jamestown, N.Dak., Jamestown Clearing House. Served in various county offices; one term member House of Representatives and North Dakota State Legislature, 1895. Mason, Odd Fellow, Elk, Shriner, Member Easter Star and Rebekahs. Republican. Presbyterian.
