Lawrence Homer Fife

I am searching for my ancestor Lawrence Homer Fife. He was married to Elizabeth"Elizabeth" Wagers in 1878. They lived in Adams County, Iowa were listed in the 1880 US Census. However, he seems to have dropped of the grid after that. Neither he nor his wife are listed in the 1885 Iowa Census. They had 3 children that were adopted out in Dekalb County, MO to the James Mason family, Eliza remarried in 1886 to a James Haley. But there is no record that I can find showing what happened to Lawrence. His father, James T Fife is buried in Adams County, but again, no Lawrence, Any information would be greatly appreciated.
