Land Owner in 1877

Before a fatal accident, on the railroad, my gg uncle had filed a will deeding his 160 acres in Adams County, Iowa to his brother, my gg grandfather,living in Wisconsin. No family member knows what happened to his land,or exact location of his grave site. Except the history says at the time of death he was working on the rails in Rock Island,Il and is buried near there. Did the railroad take back unpaid land? He never lived on it.
