Sarah Elizabeth Murdock, daughter of Ruth and William B. Brown was born November 1, 1851 in Navarre, Stark County, Ohio and passed away at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa at 3:00 p.m., April 15, 1948 at the age of 96 years, 3 months, and 14 days. For one of her age she had been enjoying very good health until April 13, when she fell in her home and broke a hip.
January 8, 1873, she was married to Samuel P. Murdock at Brimfield, Illinois. To this union were born three children, Harry Earl, Frank R., and Ola D. In 1890 the family came to Jasper Township in Adams County, Iowa whee Mr. Murdock has lived since that time. For the past 43 years she has lived in Brooks. For many years she has been a member of the Methodist church of Brooks, and was always faithful in attendance while her strength permitted.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, October 21, 1900. She is survived by her three children, Harry Earl and Frank R. Murdock both of Corning, Mrs. Ola D. Bowman of Chillicothe, Missouri, 6 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. God had permitted Mrs. Murdock to live among her people of this community these many years and we will remember her as one of those kindly characters who was always ready and more than willing to do her part in the time of need.
Funeral services were held in the Brooks Methodist Church on Saturday, April 17, at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. V. A. Bloomquist. Interment was made in the Prairie Rose Cemetery.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Glen Tucker and Mrs. Harold Refling, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Clifford Ordell.
Pall bearers wee Loren Fuller, John Mitchell, Ernest Stillinger, D. T. Odell, C. C. Clark, and Fay Johnson.
