IRENE COCHRAN
Irene Westlake Cochran, the second daughter of Arthur and Myrtle Clark Westlake, was born on a farm south of Grant, Iowa, August 25, 1901 and passed away October 30, 1974 at the age of 73 years, 2 months, and 4 days. Her early life was spent in and around Corning. She was a Corning telephone operator for several years.
She was married to Ferris Cochran at Creston, Iowa, June 18, 1926. No children were born to this union. Ferris and Irene farmed inAdams County for awhile. They also worked on the west coast during World War 2. The last number of years they have made their home in Omaha, Nebraska. Mrs. Cochran had been afflicted with cancer for the past ten years. She never thought of herself, always willing and wanting to do for others.
Irene was one of nine children, four sisters and five brothers. Ethel Shipley of Nodaway, Laurence (Jack) of Arizona; Floyd, deceased; Harold of Brooks, Grace Medders of Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska, Donald of Troutdale, Oregon, Maxine Wilkinson an Olin E., deceased.
Survivors include her husband, three sisters, three brothers and four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and especially two nieces, Debra and Cindy who she helped rear and the sister, Grace, who took her to the hospital so many times.
Funeral services were held at the Roland Funeral Home in Corning, November 2 at 2:00 conducted by Joe Cook. Interment was in Prairie Rose Cemetery.
Music was provided by Donna Peckham. Casket bearers were George Simmons, Larry Perrine, Dick Westlake, Lowell Westlake, Charles Thompson, and Millard Sink.
