THEODORE A. GERARD

Funeral services for Theodore A. Gerard of Chamberlain, So. Dak. were held at the Methodist church in Kennebec, So. Dak. on Tuesday, Sept. 15th at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. E. E. Hoates officiating. Singing by Lois Pier and Lavina McGee accompanied by Irene Koepnick, with interment in the Kennebec cemetery.

Mr. Gerard was born on a farm near Corning, Iowa, August 29, 1877 and passed away peacefully in his sleep, Friday afternoon, Sept. 12, 1953, having reached the age of 76 years and 13 days. He was the youngest of eight boys born to the late Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Gerard, all of whom preceded him in death.

He graduated from high school in Corning, Ia., and from Iowa State Teacher’s College at Cedar Falls after which he taught Mathematics for a time at Corning and Nodaway.

He was married Sept. 7, 1904 to Lillian Aley Packer of St. Joseph, Missouri. At the time of their marriage he operated a short order house and directed the band at Plainview, Nebr. In 1906 he and his brother, Charles, filed on homesteads south of Kennebec, So. Dak. were he farmed until retiring to Chamberlain, So. Dak. in 1945, were he built and operated Gerard’s River-Vu Lodge until his passing.
