Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Gerard, of Chicago, were in Corning a short time Thursday, enroute to Chicago from Nevada, Mo., where they had been called by the death of Mr. Gerardís father, Pete A. Gerard, aged 81.

Many of the older residents of this community will remember the Gerard families, residents here many years ago. The families were associated with the Icarian Community which at one time flourished east of Corning.

Pete A. Gerard was born in Corning May 17, 1868 (1866) and died at a hospital in Nevada, Mo., Friday, Jan. 2, 1948. Mrs. Gerard preceded him in death in 1935. He has resided in the Nevada area for the past 45 years.

Mr. Gerard had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and had been a member of the Eastern Star order since before leaving Adams county. He is survived by one daughter. Mrs. Helen Gerard Barger, Nevada, Mo.; one son Floyd Gerard, Chicago, Ill.; one brother, Theodore Gerard, Chamberlain, South Dakota, and two grandsons.
