Mary Etta Evans who was born in Courtland, Ind., Feb. 2, 1848, departed this life at her home in Brooks, June 3, 1924, at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 1 day, following gradual decline during the past year. When only a small child her father came to Iowa with three motherless girls and located at Chariton, and later coming to Brooks, settling on a farm where she grew to womanhood.

She was united in marriage to Gaylor N. Odell April 24, 1873. Their fifty years of married life were spent mostly on a farm three miles northwest of Brooks, except two years spent in Clarinda and the last few years in Brooks.

To this union eight children were born, six of whom are living. The eldest, Mrs. Eva Palmer and an infant son preceded her in death, also the husband who died December 30, 1923. The living children are Dello T. of Cresco, Arthur C. of Brooks, Harry H. of Sioux City, Jesse E. of Charles City, Mrs. Addie Anderson and Mrs. Russell Lines of Clarinda. There are also living thirty-nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Addie Mathis of Enid, Okla.

Mrs. Odell united with the Church of Christ of Brooks when only a young girl and has lived a faithful and consistent life.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Brooks Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. James A. Burns, pastor of the Christian church at Clarinda. All of the children were present except the son Jesse E. of Charles City.
