Eliza Jane Davis was born in Washington county, Indiana, April 27, 1833, and died December 9, 1915, at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 12 days. When quite young she move with her parents to Jasper county, Indiana, where she lived until 1854, when she came with her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Freshour, to Adams county. She was married September 7, 1857, to Wm. R. Evans and moved onto the farm which was her home until her death.

Mr. Evans died in 1900, since which time Mrs. Evans’ son, Edwin, and his family have lived in the house with her and cared for her. Mrs. Evans was the mother of seven children. Three daughters died in infancy. The living children are Mrs. Darlesca E. Proctor, of Nickerson, Kansas; Wm. L. Evans, of Fort Cobb, Okla., and Edwin Evans on the home place. All of the children except the daughter attended the funeral. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Brooks M. E. church, conducted by the pastor Rev. Fred Moore.
