Fred Philander Carothers, was born May 26, 1876 in Adams County, Iowa to Charles Carothers and Alfreda H. Ellis, was born May 26, 1876 in Adams County, Iowa and passed away at his home in Nodaway, June 18, 1959. He was married to Jennie Beatrice Hyde February 5, 1899, who passed away January 22, 1951. On December 17, 1953, he was married to Mrs Maude Boham. Survivors are his wife, a daughter Vivian; a son-in-law; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother A. L. Carothers of Woodbury, Oregon; three stepchildren and their families; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was a faithful member of the Methodist Church, enjoying the companionship of his Bible. His entire life was spent in tis vicinity, having served as mail carrier and postmaster for a number of years, allusion the mercantile business.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Nodaway, June 21, at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Verne Weigel officiating. Pianist was Mrs. Florence Taylor and she accompanied Mrs. Margaret Dismukes and Mrs. Edna Everett, who sang.
Flower bearers were Mrs. Clyde Vaughn and Mrs. Leota Shires.
Graveside services were conducted by the Masonic Lodge of which he was a 50 year member.
Interment was in the Nodaway Cemetery.
