John Marsh died Sunday, December 18, 1904, at his home in Nodaway of access of the brain, aged 73 years, 1 month, 1 day. The funeral was held the following afternoon at the Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. R. C. Rowley of Brooks, assisted by Rev. S. W. Miles and Rev. J. E. Coe. Interment was made in Nodaway Cemetery. The services at the grave were conducted by Meyerhof Post. John Marsh was born November 17, 1881 in Pickaway County, Ohio He was married to Mary Rains, April 30, 1854. When the war broke out in 1861, he was one of a party of three the first ones in his out to enlist. His first serve was in the 43rd Ohio, a three months regiment, from which he was discharged subsequently enlisting in the 151st Ohio, with which he served to the end of the war. He came with his family to Iowa in 1870, settling in Adams County in 1874, where the family has since resided. Mr. and Mrs. Marsh were the parents of eleven children, four of who are living, and with the members of their families attended the funeral. They are Mrs. Emma Peterson of Villisca, David Marsh of Clarinda, and Joseph and Clarence of Nodaway. Mr. Marsh has a sister living in Ohio, and a brother, William H. Marsh, living near Nodaway.
