Cyrena M. Roberts Herstein, daughter of Joseph and Martha Wolford, was born at Chenoa, Illinois, May 7, 1892 and passed away Sunday, July 31, 1966 at the St. Margaret’s Hospital, Kansas City, Kansas at the age of 74 years, 2 months, and 24 days.
At the age of 9, she moved with her parents to Corning where she has since made her home until the last few years. She received her education in Adams County Schools and was a rural school teacher for 4 years. At an early age, she united with the Baptist Church and was active in her attendance as long as her health permitted.
She was united in marriage to Frank W. Roberts on August 30, 1914, at the home of her parents, northeast of Corning by Rev. A. Y. Cupp, and to this union seven children were born. Mr. Roberts passed away in 1951. On May 9, 1956, she was united in marriage to John C. Herstein in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After Mr. Herstein’s death on November 26, 1958, she moved to Kansas City, where she spent her last years.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husbands, Frank Roberts and John Herstein; one infant daughter, Virginia Ruth; an infant sister, Bertha; one sister, Mrs. Lillie Figgins of Carbon, Iowa. She is survived by her six children; Joy Kneller, Kansas City, Kansas; Mary Howard, Overland Park, Kansas; Grace Shaw, Alameda, California; Wilma Gattonie, Costro Valley, California, Frank W. Roberts, Jr., Kansas City, Kansas, and Arlene Parson, Kansas City, Kansas; 21 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are 4 brothers, Joe Wolford, Atlantic, Iowa; Grant Wolford, Massena, Iowa; Randall Wolford, Massena, Iowa, and Ray Wolford, Omaha, Nebraska; and many friends and relatives. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at the Roland Funeral Home, Corning, August 5, 1966, at 1:30 with Joe Cook in charge.
