Gladys Lucinda Pond Walter, 93, Corning, was born November 7, 1902 to Benjamin Franklin and Clara Martha Leap Pond at Mt. Etna. She died December 3, 1995 at the Clearview Nursing Home in Clearfield.
Her childhood was spent near Bascom, Montana where she attended grade school. The family moved back to Adams County, Iowa in 1917.
She was married to Alva D. (Bub) Walter at Brooks on July 18, 1920. The lived all their married life on the farm north of Nodaway which was Alva’s birthplace and home at the time of their marriage.
Mrs. Walter gardened, sewed, Crocheted, tatted, and embroidered, and a specialty was baking bread.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Duane Pond, sister, Hazel Richie, and a grandson.
She is survived by children, Harold (wife Wilma) Walter, Prescott, Darlene (husband Merlin) Dixon, and Connie (husband Terry) Helvie, both of Corning; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Corning with the Rev. Ken Rummer officiating. Burial will be in the Nodaway Cemetery.
Casket bearers are Roger Walter, Larry Pond, Allen Dixon, Lenny Helvie, David Walter, and Nick Keefe.
A memorial has been established in her name.
