Many friends in the county were grieved to learn of the death of Postmaster John Minert of Nodaway which occurred November 5, 1914. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Methodist Church in Nodaway and was conducted by Rev. E. S. McCartney. Interment was made in the Nodaway Cemetery, the ceremonies at the grave being under the aupices of the G.A.R. and Masonic fraternities. John Minert was born November 21, 1843 in Green County, Wisconsin and was aged 70 years, 11 months, and 7 days. He removed with his parents to Page County, Iowa in 1858, removing here later. He enlisted in Co. F, 23d Iowa Infantry in 1862, but was discharged in a few months on account of disability. He was married to Miss Margaret Josephine Brown, February 20, 1868, and to them four children were born, Harry B. Minert, Logan, Iowa, and Mrs. Minnie A Findley of Wellman, Iowa, who with wife and mother survive him. Carrie E. Findley died February 28, 1897, and Mrs. Edith M. Findley died September 6, 1900. Mr. Minert had for many years been a member of the Methodist Church and was a fine Christian man.
